Thailand / Burma Mission Trip
Hey Everyone,
This website will be a project that I will be working on over the next year.
I have been invited to help out with a grade 4/5 class from J.J. O'Neil Catholic School in Napanee.
What
I will be doing is going in and helping the class with understanding
and how to use technology. This is all part of a project
called Universal Design and you can find out more about that here (link coming soon).
I
am really excited to go and work with the students at the school
and I had a discussion with the teacher the other day about what we can
do. Well we came up with a nifty idea. I will be leaving on
a mission trip near the end of September and heading to Thailand and
Burma to work with students over there for a few weeks.
Since
the students in the class will be working this year with technology, I
figured to help inspire them I would take along the same technology
that we will be using in the classroom and I would use it while I am
away.
So here is what I will be using and doing with the technology while I am there.
I will be taking a netbook that is the same hardware as we will be using in the classroom this year
Here are some pictures of the netbook (notice the last picture!! goning to be a little difficult to type)
I
myself will be using slightly different software then the students at
the school because I am also wanting to show what a small sub $500
piece of equipment can do for missionaries out in the field.
I
have found a collection of mostly open source free software which I
will post to this site with links for downloading them yourself.
So what do I hope to accomplish with this?
- I would like to show what can be done with a sub 500 dollar piece of equiptment when out in the missions field
- Inspire a bunch of grade 4/5 students on using technology in a productive way
I
will be updating this site as frequently as I can considering I have
never been to Thailand or Burma before and I have know idea what my
access to the internet will be.
I hope that you follow me on my trip and please pass this website address on to others who you think may find this interesting.
